Calendar of Events

Citrus County HIV/AIDS Support Group meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 12:30 - 1:30 pm in the Lecanto Health Department meeting room. This meeting is open to persons living with HIV/AIDS, their families, friends, and caregivers. For more information call 527-0068 ext 237 or 304

Community Clinics and Pneumonia Vaccines will be held on Mondays from 9 am to 11 am, September thru May excluding holidays. We offer fasting blood sugar, hemoglobin (test for anemia), and hemoccult test kit for blood in the stool. These tests cost $5.00 each. Blood pressure screening is free.

Pneumonia vaccine This vaccine can be billed to Medicare (Part B only) or the cost will be $25.00. We can not accept HMO or the Managed Care Plan through Medicare as payment.
The clinics are open to the public and will be held as follows:
Second Monday: East Citrus Community Center, 9907 E Gulf to Lake Hwy, Inverness, Fl.
Third Monday: West Citrus Community Center, 8940 S. Veterans Dr., Homosassa, Fl.
Fourth Monday is held at different sites and will be advertised in the local newspapers.

Childbirth Classes are available at Citrus Memorial Hospital. This is a four week program that meets every Wednesday from 6 to 9pm. A new class begins on the 1st Wednesday of each month. If you receive your Prenatal Care at the Citrus County Health Department or if you are on the WIC program vouchers are available to take this class at no cost.

Child Safety Seat Check Ups and Car Seat Safety Classes are scheduled by appointment at the Inverness office, 120 N. Montgomery Ave. For more information call: (352) 726-1731 ext 242.

Diabetes classes are held at the Citrus County Health Department Lecanto office on Mondays from 9:00 - 10:00 AM excluding holidays. The cost is free. For more information call: (352) 527-0068 ext 296.

Freedom From Smoking Classes
The Citrus County Health Department will offer the next “Freedom From Smoking” classes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. beginning Tuesday, May 6th, 2008 (future classes are also listed below). Classes will be held in Room 116 at the George A. Dame Community Health Center, 2804 Mark Knighton Court, Lecanto FL. Each class will run for seven weeks according to the following schedule.

Freedom From Smoking Schedule 2008

This program follows the American Lung Association’s “Freedom From Smoking” guidelines utilizing education, behavioral change, and group support. We encourage all those who wish to quit smoking cigarettes to attend. Orientation is free, so there is no charge for the information/orientation session on the first night. The total fee for the remaining sessions is only $20.
